Larisa Correa, LCSW
Founder, Therapist, Reiki Master & Energy Healer
I founded Mpower Counseling in 2018 to address the growing need for mental health services in Suffolk county for low income families and those without access to care. As a person living in and serving the community where she works, I was attuned to the challenges, obstacles, nuances, and vibrancy of the needs of the community. My cultural, linguistic, and gendered experiences helped in my understanding of the cultural norms, roles, expectations, and life complexities of my clients.
The core values that inform my work and life include a commitment to the needs and lives of my clients; integrity as the center driving the ethic of the work I do; nuanced appreciation for deep listening and the ways in which intersecting facets of a person’s life reveal themselves and work to impact their situation; genuine care for the people and their lives; an approach that harnesses a client’s strengths as a tool for their restoration and cultivation of life habits in ways that are aligned and accessible with their lives; and attention to the ways in which we can celebrate, lift up, and amplify growth and accomplishment as a resiliency practice.
“I think the strongest part of my work is that I am authentic in how I show up;
I approach my work with a realness that reaches the clients I serve.”
As a bilingual, bicultural, Latinx, Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Therapist, I have dedicated my practice to working with men and women centering wholeness with an intersectional approach to understanding what led you here–the Who, What, Where, When and How. In session, you will experience authenticity, empathy and humor as I bring a humanistic approach to each session. My therapeutic approach is an integrative practice of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy complemented through mindfulness and spiritual practice techniques. I use my cultural and spiritual insight, as well as my lifetime experiences, to hold up the mirror to change their story.
“I am responsive to individuals who emerge and they see themselves validated.”
I believe that the way I present and what I bring to the table as a therapist contribute to how clients engage with me; I listen deeply and center each client’s needs by meeting them where they are; co-creating a plan of care for success in their life. Through a holistic approach, I use evidenced based interventions like cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing and solution focused therapy to develop a treatment that will address your goals.
I am a proud “first-gen” graduate of NYU’s Silver School of Social Work with a focus on clinical practice. I am doing work that I love and work that is my life’s purpose. Thus, when I am in session, I am enacting my spiritual, professional, and cultural purpose. I am culturally responsive to individuals who emerge from these spaces, as understood and see themselves and see themselves as validated.
